WHAT IS VEDIC ASTROLOGY?

Hindu Philosophy

Before knowing what Vedic astrology is, we should first understand why it was created in the first place.

In Hindu philosophy, the concept of the meaning of life and how it was created has been debated and discussed in multiple texts or stories.

However, most people will agree that the major concepts explained in Upanishads are the main ideas:

  • Brahma is the Godhead or center of energy.
  • Atman is the divine core of personality and has the same energy source as Brahma but is located in each living soul.
  • Dharma is the law that expresses and maintains the unity of creation.
  • Karma is the web of cause and effect.
  • Samsara is the cycle of birth and death.
  • Moksha is the spiritual liberation that is life’s supreme goal.

Karma

The first concept which is most relevant for Vedic Astrology is Karma

Karma is a core principle in Hinduism that whatever action one takes (or thinks) will cause an effect.  Both positive and negative directions.

Therefore, the intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect).

For example, if one studies hard in math (cause), one will do well in his or her math test and gain mathematical knowledge (effect).

If one robs someone (cause) they will go to jail or also get robbed later on (effect)

Hindu’s Ultimate Goal

Karma is an educative force whose purpose is to teach the individual to act in harmony with dharma; not to pursue selfish interests at the expense of others.

In this sense life is like a school; one can learn, one can graduate, and one can skip a grade or stay behind.  As long as a debt of karma remains, however, a person has to keep coming back for further education.

That is the basis of samsara, the cycle of birth and death.

The ultimate goal for a Hindu is for the atman to connect to Brahma (the source of all energy) and end the cycle of rebirth.

This invisible energy is everywhere in the cosmos and has been proven in astrological physics.  In fact, the energy we can observe or define as ‘normal’ matter is only 5%.  While 95% is dark energy or matter that one cannot see or understand.

How to Buy Vedic Gemstone? Brahma is connected to all us through AtmanVedic Astrology

This invisible energy explains how the concept of Vedic astrology is connected to us and the effect the planet’s rays have on us.

We are all Atman which is the same energy source as Brahma and therefore the planet positions help us analyze what our ‘energy’ wavelength is.

Thus astrology is the method of understanding one’s karma or destiny by analyzing different planet positions.  The planets can tell us what our personality, physical, or mental state is.  Accordingly, this will affect how we act which will predict our future destiny.

Therefore, our life’s good fortune and misfortunate represent what we have done in the past and our current actions.  These are our Karmic actions.

HOW DOES VEDIC ASTROLOGY FIT INTO THIS?

In Vedic astrology, it is believed that seven world objects (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, & Saturn) and two other nodes (Rahu and Ketu) help us see what karmic actions we have done in the past and therefore can foretell the future.

It is believed in Vedic astrology that the rays of these planets or nodes show us our physical, mental, and personality traits.  With the influence of these traits, we can then foretell our fortunes and misfortunes through our past and future karmic actions.

  • A Vedic chart is like an accounting book showing our good or bad karmic deeds in the past.
  • Therefore can tell if we can get certain aspects of life easily or if we need to struggle for them.

The position of these objects is determined by your place & birth time, which can foretell what your future will be.

  • The nine objects are positioned in 12 houses which represent different aspects of one life.
  • These positions are where the planets are set in the sky at the time of birth.

HOW DOES THE DIFFERENT POSITION OF PLANETS INFLUENCE YOUR FUTURE?

The planets’ positions determine which aspect of life you will get easier or have more difficulty or denial.

Vedic astrologers based their knowledge given in Vedas, on their forefathers or Gurus.  They can check if the planet’s position is positive or negative by seeing where the planets are placed on the chart and how they related to each other.

  • These positions influence the positive or negative relationship in terms of sign placements.
  • They can also foretell when an event will occur through various planets’ transit during the day, month or year.
  • Planets which are in exalted signs or in friendly houses will have stronger rays coming to us and this will make this particular aspect of your life a little easier.
  • Planets in debilitated signs or in enemy houses will have fewer rays coming to us, so have more difficulty achieving that aspect in life, delay it, or may deny it as well.
  • The planets also have relationships with each other.  They can either increase each other’s power or reduce it through aspects.

HOW DOES ONE KNOW THAT PLANETS IN THEIR CHART ARE IN POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE POSITIONS?

The system which I personally found most logical and practical is the KAS system.  I have provided the links below if you want to learn more about it.

KAS system is based on mathematics.  Therefore it shows how planets’ quality is through sign placement – “the multiplication effect.”  And how they are related to each other through points distribution by aspects.

  • Earlier these charts were done only for ‘Kings or Rajas’ in India as it would take any astrologer days to do all these computations by hand.
  • We now have an ‘excel’ file that does these computations easily.

This makes the system more logical and with fewer debates.  As one can quickly see through numerical values how the relationship of the planets is connected to each other.  And what quality they are based on their signs’ position.

It takes into account multiple difficult concepts and therefore can tell you different reasons why certain aspects of life are easier while other aspects are difficult.   It is the only system that does not generalize if the planets are in favorable or negative positions.

You have to tack into account other factors as summarized very briefly below.

  • “Quality” or how the planet is positioned (or aspects) is only one factor.
  • “Timing of event occurring” how the planets distribute points to each other or the houses by helping (benefic) or hurting (malefic) one another is the other factor.

For more details, I recommend reading the KAS dimension book or joining the KAS group.

I would personally like to thank Guru-ji Krushana Jugalji for teaching us this system.

BONUS QUESTION – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VEDIC ASTROLOGY AND WESTERN (SUN SIGN ASTROLOGY)?  –

[NOT INCLUDED IN THE VIDEO]

The key difference between Vedic astrology and ‘simplified’ western sun sign astrology is that western astrology only looks at one sign. Where the sun is located on the chart.

For example, if I was born between March 21 to April 19 then I will be an “Aries.”  Therefore, I will check my daily horoscope based on that.  This is what you read in newspapers or in your daily horoscope online.

This only takes into account where your ‘Sun sign’ is located which in Vedic astrology will classify as your ‘physical characteristics or traits.’

However, Vedic astrology also classifies your personality into two other characteristics.  Your ‘rising sign’ or Lagna (the first house sign) at the time of birth explains your personality and the moon placement sign explains your mental state.

Therefore in Vedic astrology, we will see the person as ‘multi-dimensional’ and not a single dimension like in simplified western astrology.

A Summary of Your Personality Type in Vedic astrology is shown below:

a) Rising Sign (Lagna Sign or your first house sign) – this dictates your personality type.

b) Moon Sign (where the moon is located in the chart) – this dictates your mental state type.

c) Sun Sign (where the sun is located and where is simplified in western astrology) – this dictates your physical type.

A BRIEF ANALYSIS OF CLERK TO BILLIONAIRE CHART USING KAS

In this chart key points summary is provided below:

a) Mercury and Moon are situated in the sixth sign from their own sign which means both are in an ‘exalted’ position and therefore the quality of these planets has been enhanced.

b) Saturn is situated in its own sign.

c) Mars and Mercury are situated in a 4:10 relationship, Mars has less points and Mercury has high points.  This means Mercury becomes subordinate and helps Mars and therefore, Mars is powerful for all the 12 houses.

d) Venus and Mercury is having sight of Mars which has less points.  Therefore this aspect gives points to Venus and Mercury and makes these two planets powerful for all the 12 houses.

e) Therefore in this chart Mars, Mercury and Venus have more than 12 points in the chart.  This assists in getting positive things done, when the particular planet’s time period comes.  This is an example of the positive timing of events.

This person started his career as a clerk at a petrol pump and later became a billionaire.

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – How Does Gemstone Help?

Now they are two schools of argument regarding wearing gemstones.

Anukul-Vad School – One wears a gemstone that represents a favorable or positive planet.  For example, exalted, own sign, benefic, mulatrikona, good house, etc.  This will enhance the power of this planet so your fortune will increase accordingly.

Lucky planet = Lucky gemstone.

Partikul-vad school – These scholars believe because the planet is weak in the chart, one should wear the gemstones that represent it. Wearing this type of gemstone will substitute for the planet’s weak power and therefore, reduce the unfavorable effect.   This will also make it more balanced to the favorable planets.

Gemstones will enhance the “weak planet.”  Weak planet = Gemstone helps that weakness power.

So, which of these two schools is correct?

Neither, as the point of wearing a gemstone is to fix or reduce the problem you are having.  Therefore the correct gemstones depend on your chart and the circumstances in why you want to wear a gemstone.

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – Gemstones are Important Corrections Tools – Be Careful When Using Them

One has to analyze the chart to see what is deficient or you having difficulty so that we can use the gemstone to enhance or help that situation.

Currently, most pandits just recommend gems that represent benefic houses.

  • Trikona Houses – 1st, 5th and 9th house.
  • Kendra Houses – 4th, 7th, 10th house.
  • Avoid Malefic houses – 6th, 8th, 12th house.

However, are these ‘strictly’ bad houses?

  • 8th house can cause accidents but also provide unearned income from wills and legacy.
  • 6th house can give enemies and disease but can win in litigation or income for service.
  • 12th house can give you the comforts of sleeping in a cozy bed, etc.,

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – What Gemstone Does Each Planet Represent?

How to buy Vedic Gemstone? What sign does each gemstone representThe planet or Moon sign the Vedic Gemstone represents is shown in the left image.

There are substitutes if one finds these gemstones expensive.

For example, yellow sapphire is recommended for Jupiter.  We can instead replace it with yellow topaz or yellow citrine.

Other replacements usually should match the color of the gemstones shown in the left image.

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – What Quality Gemstones Should One Wear?

One should buy a gemstone that is natural, clean, and as vivid in color as possible.

Best quality gemstones based on 4Cs plus OT (color, clarity, carat weight, cut, origin and treatment) method used in my previous gemstone videos.

It is recommended not to buy highly included gems or gemstones treated by men.  This is because treatments change the gemstone’s natural characteristics and therefore can affect the energy in a wrong or negative direction.

For example, chemically-diffused yellow sapphires are in their natural state purple or grey in color.  So, wearing these treated stones you are actually wearing a purple or gray sapphire that does not represents Jupiter’s yellow ray energy that you are seeking.   In fact, it can affect you negatively.

Therefore, buying high-quality Vedic gemstones is like buying any high-quality gemstones.

  • It should be natural or untreated.
  • It should not have eye-visible inclusions.

Having some inclusions in natural gemstone is okay.

  • Gemstones naturally grow this way, especially high-quality stones like rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. It is normal to have some inclusions.

However, gemstones should be as ‘eye-clean’ as possible, so it does not affect the light rays.

  • The gemstones you are wearing are providing you with the positive energy required.  The main purpose is to replace the energy you want from a particular planet that is causing you to have some issues.

Does it have to be absolutely clean under the microscope (or loupe clean)?

Personally, no, as in old Vedic times they did not have microscopes to check gem inclusions.

  • Clean crystal in terms of transparency (not cloudy).

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – What Particular Weight (Carat weight or Rati) Gemstone does One Have to Wear?

This is one common question I get asked every time.  What carat weight or rati gemstone should I wear?

Nowhere in Vedic scriptures does it mention how to determine what weight gemstone one should wear.

Also, it is more important to get a high-quality gemstone than bigger looking gemstone. For example, you might have a limited budget to get a particular gemstone.

Is it better to get a bad-looking 6-carat emerald or a top-grade 1-carat emerald?

How to Buy Vedic Gemstone? Better to buy included large emerald or clean small emerald?

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – The Problem with Astrological Gemstones Being Currently Worn Among Most People?

Gemstones are bought without understanding what they are and how to determine their quality.

To determine the quality of gemstones one should also consult a gemologist.  The same way one consults a Vedic astrologer in trying to get a remedy or checking one’s Vedic charts.

Astrologers, even though they might be good at looking at charts, generally don’t have a good understanding of gemstones.

Are they 100% natural or have been subject to different treatments?

Aggressive treatments include heat, chemically diffused, lead-glass, dye, oil, wax or resin treatment – etc.,

  • Don’t understand high quality is based on the 4Cs plus OT principles
  • It is a ‘genuine’ gemstone or substitute (glass, plastic) or synthetic.  Only a gemologist can check all this.

HOW TO BUY VEDIC GEMSTONE? – STONES SOLD IN INDIA FOR ASTROLOGY PURPOSES

How to buy a Vedic Gemstone? Stones sold in India for Astrology Purposes. Bad Quality Gemstones.

Thes stones currently sold in India are usually considered ‘reject’ stones in the gem trade.  This is how one should not buy a Vedic gemstone.

The four gemstones you see on the left side of the image – ruby, emerald, yellow and blue sapphire – are actually natural gemstones, so are correct in terms of ‘treatment criteria.’

However, the other 4Cs (especially color and clarity) have been dramatically sacrificed.

  • Color – ruby red color is okay, emerald green color is okay, however, the yellow and blue sapphire is considered whitish or purplish color range (not good quality).
  • Clarity – almost all the gemstones above are highly included or not transparent.  The ruby and emerald are both semi-translucence stones, with very visible inclusions.  The yellow sapphire has visible inclusions and a ‘cloudy’ crystal.  While the purplish (supposedly blue sapphire) is clean and transparent.
  • Cut-Grade – all stones seem to have a ‘good’ cut.
  • Carat weight – It should be okay and or fit in the “correct” carat weight range the person is looking for.

The stones on the right of the image are actually not even ruby, emerald, or sapphire but ‘dyed sillimanite.’   You can actually do a simple google search to check this out and you will find the article stating “Emeralds, Rubies, and Sapphires from India are FAKE: Really DYED SILLIMANITE!”

This proves that even some stones which people buy in India are actually not the actual gemstone they should wear for astrological purposes.

Only a gemologist or reliable third-party certificate can verify if the gemstone you buying is genuine or not.
